Rasmussen studied painting at the Copenhagen Technical School, The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen (1934 1938) and under Elof Christian Risebye (1892 1961) at his private painting school. After WWII, Rasmussen moved to Paris where he ran a small studio near Place du Terte and painted under the name 'Jean Le Van'. In 1946, Rasmussen married the Spanish artist Carmen Lillian Cervera
